At the battle of Faliro, Georgios Karaiskakis, legendary commander in chief at Roumeli, was fatally injured when fighting against the Turks of Kutahi Pasha. He died the next day, on 23 April, before having the chance to see Greece free, leaving behind an irreplaceable void.
